CHHATTISGARH govt. challenges NIA Act in Supreme Court

Chhattisgarh government filed an original suit under Article 131 of the constitution in SC seeking to declare the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 as unconstitutional. The NIA Act was enacted in 2008 by the then UPA government with a view to constituting NIA to investigate and prosecute offences affecting the sovereignty, security and integrity of the country. In 2019, the NDA government brought in major amendments, which according to the state, curtails the operational freedom and sovereignty of the states.
